System Redundancy Options

The CTI 2500 Series® system offers three types of redundancy: power supply redundancy, CPU redundancy, and remote base controller redundancy.

Power Supply Redundancy

When installed in a 2500-R11-A base, pairs of either the 2512-A or 2515-A power supplies are designed to operate redundantly. The dual redundant power supplies operate in a load sharing mode until a failure is detected in one of the supplies and the other power supply takes full load.

CPU Redundancy

In applications where remote IO bases are used, the 2541 Redundant Processor Manager (RPM) provides a warm backup redundancy solution for your vital processes. Should the Active PLC fail to update the remote I/O within a specified period of time, the RPM will automatically switch control to the Standby PLC.

Remote Base Controller Redundancy

When installed in a 2500-R11-A base, pairs of either the 2500-RIO-A or 2500-RIO-B remote base controllers are designed to provide remote base control redunancy. A pair of 2500-RIO-A remote base controllers (RBC’s) provide dual media redundancy if used in either the 2500-R11-A or 505-6511 dual-media (redundant) bases. Dual media redundancy provides a secondary communication connection to a processor if the primary connection fails. A pair of 2500-RIO-B RBC’s provide dual media as well as hardware redundancy if used in either the 2500-R11-A or 505-6511 redundant bases. In addition to dual media redundancy, the 2500-RIO-B provides hardware redundancy that transfers communications to the secondary RBC if there is a failure with the primary RBC hardware.
